David Grr and Loic Quédec of Aukland, New Zealand have established a name for themselves both as photographers and visionaries following the launch of their creative agency for lifestyle and fashion influencers. Two Point Blk has garnered a high-profile list of clients, from the likes of Herschel Supply Co., Adidas, Stampd, and Cereal Magazine, where David and Loic provide them with concepts and visuals featuring their incredible eye for detail.
It has been an honour to work with the talented duo on various occasions, including a shoot for our collaboration with Toronto-based brand Felony Case. We recently took a moment to sit down with David and Loic to learn more about their day-to-day lives, how they manage a healthy work/life balance, and what kind of advice they have for other young professionals. Get familiar with these two, as they're only getting better and bigger by the day.
DNP: What does a typical day look like for you?
David: A typical day starts around 830 clearing emails and messages & planning what shoot or photos need to be shot that day and budgeting. Probably shoot for 4 hours a day and at some point Loic and I will go get lunch. We're big fans of good food, usually a meeting happens in the afternoon whether it be in person over Skype or a phone call. A lot of the time we have to source props, locations & camera gear. Late afternoon we'll look over the work and figure out what we need to post on our social platforms and what photos need to be edited for different companies. We usually do post production and eat dinner together for a couple hours and finish up working around 9pm. 12 hour days usually happen 3-4 times a week.
DNP: What projects have you recently been working on?
David + Loic: Lately we've had in influx of large technological companies approaching us wanting our aesthetic and lifestyle approach to shooting products. Currently in the mix we have Samsung, Beats by Dre and working with Liberty Fairs Trade Expo in Las Vegas.
DNP: What do you find most challenging and exciting about your career?
David: I think the main excitement would be the travel, and the products we get to work with. It's always challenging being in such a small remote country because it's hard to feel part of the international fashion community and companies are always a bit reserved when it comes to sending whole collections and expensive products to little New Zealand. We really have to prove that it's worth their time.
DNP: Where does your passion derive from?
David + Loic: We both live and breath cutting edge aesthetics, we have very similar tastes in clothing, design and architecture. And are inspired by fellow artists & photographers.
DNP: How do you manage a healthy work/life balance?
David + Loic: It’s important to disconnect and spend evenings away from social media. We often talk late into the night in places where there’s no cellphone reception. It opens your eyes to a world we forget about. But like anything, it is our job and it will consume a good part of my life so you just have to find your own balance really.
DNP: What does success look like to you?
David + Loic: We judge our success on how well we achieve our goals and how original we are in creating our work.
DNP: What do you consider your greatest achievement?
David: I think for myself it would be Kevin Ma approaching me to come work for Hypebeast in their head office in Hong Kong; overlooking content.
Loic: Being chosen to showcase my work and help style Liberty Fairs Trade Expo in Las Vegas next month.
DNP: What’s one word that best describes your personality?
DNP: What is your greatest fear?
David: I hate Sharks. I hate and love them.
DNP: What is your most treasured possession?
David + Loic: To be honest, our phones. It sounds materialistic but it’s a means to contact friends and family, keep memories and to create work and document our journey.
DNP: If you weren’t doing what you’re doing, what would you be doing?
David: I would be perusing a career in Marine Biology most likely. We’ve both always had big plans, it just happens that we fell into Social Media at the right time and at the same.
Loic: Traveling around the pacific.
DNP: Where is your favorite place to travel and why?
David: I love Europe especially Berlin because of the art and culture.
DNP: Where would you most like to live?
David: Loic and I both have plans to move to the states full-time but Loic loves the West Coast and me the East. We’re working on that haha.
DNP: How do you spend your down time?
David: Downtime? What’s that haha, Usually It’s going to get a bite to eat in the sun with friends or If I have a bit of time, I drive down to the beach house and spend hours at the beach and having bbqs with everyone around.
DNP: If you could spend a day with any person (living or dead), who would it be and why?
David + Loic: We both really admire Kylie Jenner, she’s really made the most of her situation and she’s pretty entrepreneurial.
DNP: Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
David + Loic: Hustle, look successful, don’t do anything half-assed and learn to take hate. And never care what anyone else thinks.
