William Singe has rapidly taken the game by storm, breaking out and rising from 100 to 2 million Facebook followers in a matter of months. With his massive growth, Will has become one the most talked about artists online, scoring a #1 on the US Spotify charts, racking in 200+ million video views, 20 million Spotify streams and earning praise from One Direction, alongside a long collective of other powerhouse artists.
With his unique vocals and production, Will continues to build momentum kicking off a world tour through Australia, Asia, U.S, & Europe alongside releasing his anticipated first original project. We recently took a moment to sit down with Will to learn more about his day-to-day life, how he manages a healthy work/life balance, and what kind of advice he has for other young professionals.
Daily News: What does a typical day look like for you?
Will: Wake up, meditate, take my gym supplements that give me heart palpitations, eat, hit the gym, come home and straight into the studio until the sun goes down, unless I have to be in the city for a meeting or interviews etcand right now I’m spending most of my day just working on my set for the tour coming up in the next month.
Daily News: What projects have you recently been working on?
Will: Right now I’m working on my first solo originals project and keeping the covers going in the meantime. Working with some insanely talented guys from Australian & the U.S., which is awesome but I just need everything to be perfect before I release it.
Daily News: What do you find most challenging and exciting about your career?
Will: The most challenging part of it would be motivating myself, you know how some days you just want to kick back on the couch and watch some TV. Yeah, well that’s not me haha, I have to make sure I’m on top of my work at all times as there's no one else to keep on my back about it except my manager Julian. But yeah I’d say that’s the most challenging thing but hey, I’ve never been one to back down from a good ol’ challenge.
The most exciting thing... jeeze. I’d say just about every aspect of my career is exciting; you never know which door is going to open next, who is going to give you props, what tour will be next, which will people think of the project, and so on. Also knowing that I get to spend my time doing what I love to do every minute of the day.
Daily News: Where does your passion derive from?
Will: My passion derives from knowing what it’s like to be standing/sitting at a desk and making someone else's pocket fatter whilst not loving where you are and knowing that this is something you DON’T want to do. I did that for what seemed like forever and I couldn’t spend my days back there. You have one time to do what you want to do. One single moment on this earth and then BOOM. It’s all gone as quick as it came. I need to know I made the most of my short experience here so that’s exactly what I’m doing. Also, seeing how incredible the results of the last year were makes me want to work twice as hard to get double what last year brought.
Daily News: How do you manage a healthy work/life balance?
Will: Haha, I’m not going to tell you it’s easy but really my life is my work. People might sit there and think, "oh well you’re not living," but all the living that I get to do is provided from my work. It put’s me on stages, it takes me to different countries and cities and cultures, it helps bring new relatable and successful people into my life, it puts me in rooms to work on music with others that people only dream about. So work = life right now and I couldn’t be happier.
I stay on top of my diet and training regime at all times, especially on tour as it brings my energy levels up, stay on top of my vitamins, meditate, read, feed the mind and of course music is also a release for me, even when it’s not for work, it's still the thing that heals the soul the most.
Daily News: What does success look like to you?
Will: Success to me looks like a person who is happy, grateful but never content. It looks like relationships that are unbreakable even when things aren’t going right. Sure, it looks like a big mansion in a far away land with all family and friends close by, sold out international arena tours and number 1 billboard hits. But ultimately success is hunger for life. As long as you have that, you’ll be successful.
Daily News: What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Will: I could tell you what it will be but we’ll let the universe play that one out, and I’ll come back and let you guys know when it happens ;)
Daily News: What’s one word that best describes your personality?
Will: Emotional haha. I’m a singer remember and it doesn’t help that I’m a Cancerian, so you know my heart is always on my sleeve.
Daily News: What is your greatest fear?
Will: My greatest fear is inevitable but it’s losing the ones that mean the most to me. That and sharks… and a spider laying eggs in my ears while I sleephaha. People say failure but I think failure is an inevitable positive, you just have to see it that way and don’t let the education of a failure be erased by the negativity that society has placed on the word.
Daily News: What is your most treasured possession?
Will: I guess I’d say everything in my studio. It's been about 8-9 years of solid collecting so I’d say my computer, my hard drives, my microphone and my preamp are my most treasured possessions. Also, all my photo albums and a balloon and rug from when I was born, those could never be replaced.
Daily News: If you weren’t doing what you’re doing, what would you be doing?
Will: To be honest, I couldn’t even tell you and I don’t want to think about it haha. Maybe studying, but I highly doubt it.
Daily News: Do you have any upcoming projects in the pipeline?
Will: Yes I do indeed, my first original project is coming out this year and maybe some crazy collaborations in the works ;)
Daily News: Where is your favorite place to travel and why?
Will: Right now, I love New York because it’s so fast paced and the people are incredibly driven. Toronto, because there’s an incredible music culture and the people are lovely. And Vanuatu, because that shit is the best damn tropical get away you’ll have. Hopefully my work takes me to every country imaginable and then I’ll have a solid answer haha.
Daily News: Where would you most like to live?
Will: I enjoy living in Sydney, but I could definitely live in Byron Bay, New York, London or Seattle.
Daily News: How do you spend your down time?
Will: Netflix & chillllllll. Hit the beach and I do enjoy going out to see my other talented friends perform and drink all their free piss haha.
Daily News: If you could spend a day with any person (living or dead), who would it be and why?
Will: Probably Drake & 40 to see what their creative process would be and just ask advice about music to business to planning to time management.
Or Bob Marley… I just think I could take a lot in from Marley on a deeper level that will help me for the rest of my life even away from music.
Daily News: If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be?
Will: A great white shark or I heard they believe there’s a Megaladon still lurking deep down in the sea. Sign me up mate.
Daily News: Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
Will: Alright ma fuckers listen up. It’s our time, the resources are there. We need to take the time to learn, be open to everything, don’t let your mind stop being a sponge after high school. There’s so much to take in that is going to benefit us. Technology is going to keep evolving right in front of our eyes; just know that’s where everything is going to end up so we are very lucky that we’re born in this generation. Stay consistent with your work and make sure the quality is something you’re going to be proud of every time. Read, meditate, write your goals down, look yourself in the mirror everyday right in the eye and tell yourself you can and you will be successful. Surround yourself with successful people who are going to drive you to be the best you can be. The only competition is being better than the person you were yesterday.
