Designing a Collection with The Chainsmokers

It's been a while since I've taken the time to share an update with everyone so I figured this would be a good time to do it. Over the last few months, we've been in production with Chapter 2 of our Strange Adventures collection, designed in collaboration with our good friends and superstars The Chainsmokers. This has taken up a lot of my time along with DJing, so I haven't been able to keep up with the blog unfortunately. However, I can't wait to start sharing some previews from this collection with you soon and hope you're as excited as we are about it. Every piece has been extremely thought out and was designed with meaning.

Since our first release, people have asked me how the relationship between Daily News Project and The Chainsmokers even came about – so I figured I would share the story before the release of our second collection. Drew, Alex, and I met a few years ago (thanks to our mutual friend Brendan Fallis for connecting us) when I interviewed them for our "A Moment With" series. Shortly after, they were visiting Toronto to play Veld Music Festival and I invited them on my family's boat prior to their set. We stayed in touch since that day, and always found a way to hang whenever we're in the same city. Fast forward to a few months later, they were on their Friend Zone tour and I drove down to meet up with them in London, Ontario. I brought them a bag full of clothes from our most recent Lost Shadows collection at the time, and they both loved it. After a few tequila shots, we naturally started talking about the clothes and came up with the idea that we should design them their own Strange Adventures line. We didn't waste any time, and got to work on it the next day.

That's the story in short; now back to Chapter 2. Drew, Alex and I started chatting last December about some new designs and all agreed it was time to release the next chapter of our co-branded Strange Adventures collection. The next step was to decide what kind of pieces we would include, and mock-up some designs for approval. My brother Alex and I started working together on this and decided that we should include two t-shirts, a hoodie, coach's jacket, hat, and overalls in the collection. We always enjoy making pieces we're confident will stand the test of time and become a staple in someone's wardrobe. From there, we got started on the graphics. This process always takes time as we want to make sure it speaks to both brands while keeping a clean, yet unique and bold aesthetic.

After many late nights, revisions, and some back and forth between Alex (my brother) and I, we sent the collection to The Chainsmokers, their management, and Live Nation for approval. It's always great working with Drew and Alex because they trust us and leave it in our hands to create something that people will be excited about. Once we got the go-ahead, it was time to re-visit our factories in Toronto to discuss how we wanted the final product to look and see if there were any alterations that had to be made to our patterns. We've received a lot of questions over the years in regards to our manufacturing process, and I've always made it clear that everything is locally made. This is something we've never wanted to change and truly believe is integral to our business and customers.

We're now in the final stages before sending the collection to Live Nation. Once they receive it, they'll make it available in limited quantities on thechainsmokers.com and will not restock any items once sold out. Stay tuned for the release date and follow us on Instagram @dailynewsproject or myself @guillaumeviau so you don't miss anything!
